Technorati Search Blog

For my last blog of the semester I went out technorati.com and I chose to search topics from my persuasion paper on steroids. I chose the first blog on anabolic steroids.

Question one: Who is/ are the blog authors
                           iSteroids
Question two: How long has the blog been active?
This blog has been posted and active since last week, December 7th
Question three: About how often do the authors create blog posts?
Authors create blog posts as of right now, seems to be every week because the blog I chose seems to be a new blog that was just recently added.

This was a interesting website, I got a chance to view different opions on my topic and new information that i did not incorporate into my own steroid paper. this is a good website for future papers.

Ethics and Medicine

There are some cases today where modern medicine conflicts a problem with most people. However there is one case that is going on nation wide and is causing a huge debate. this case is the legalization of medical marijuana. Medical marijuana is starting to be legal in some states like Colorado, California, Arizona, Montana and just recently Wisconsin. Most people are arguing about the fact, that marijuana is marijuana, that it is the drug that gets teenagers high and "out of it", kills brain cells, and makes you hungry, and tired at the same time, and it is the illegal drug that puts you behind bars. what most people do not understand is that marijuana is a plant from the cannabis plant and marijuana can help cure diseases and it is actually used for kimo therapy and cancer, and also helps with chronic disorders. I know of this conflict about medical marijuana being a good or bad thing, because it has been on the news and in the papers, people in different states held marches and rallies to pass the bill for legal marijuana, and is talked about nation wide among teenagers.

Oppose Legalizing Marijuana -- Prop. 19

I am for the Barack Obama interview because, I think he is completely right, he says prescribing medical marijuana to a cancer patient or other type of disease patient is no different than prescribing morphine or other drug doctors have to do the same job as medical marijuana. the prob 19 ad is just a commercial that takes the idea to its fullest and try's to scare everyone in American on how to not fall into the lie of legal marijuana.

How to reflection

For my how to speech, I demonstrated how to make a fruit smoothie. I think I did well with eye contact, speaking loud and clearly, and showing the steps on how to make the fruit smoothie. Areas of improvement would be speaking for the whole five minutes, and when things do not go properly in the speech, just shake it off and keep going, I felt like I did not keep going I was kind of shaky with the rest of my speech and rambled on with the blender did not work. I also felt like I could of been more prepared with my speech and should of practiced if the blender were not to work and what to say after it. This is my reaction to the how to speech and next time I will be more prepared.

Blog 3: Organs for Sale

Individuals should have the right to sell his or her organs, but only under two circumstances. One circumstance would be if a patient is in desperate need of an organ, then he or she could buy the organ from someone who does not need the organ. The second circumstance would be a donation to science and the doner could receive a monetary gift. I think this should be allowed because, if a sick child is in need of a kidney, someone can be a hero and save the child's life. Selling one's organs is not necessarily a bad cause, because one can save sick patients in the hospital, or one can give his or her organs to science and  their organs can  possibly be a cure to a new disease that is affecting people.

Martin Wilkinson the author of "Sell Organs to Save Lives" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-10786211 and myself are in agreement as to it is ok to sell your organs and it is ok to receive a monetary gift as well. Martin also answered some ethical questions and I agree with him. The question was, "What about ethical objections? Many people take pride in the system of altruistic donation" Martin had me realize that in a serious moment and desperate need people do not take the time to realize that someone is in need of an organ until that someone has passed away. This made me think because I wonder how many people have actually passed away and their lives could of been saved with a simple organ transplant, but they never received one. In a way it is very sad, and it is the truth, many people die because they do not receive a organ transplant in time or do not receive one period, that is why I think it is ok to sell your organs.

Obsticles in Writing /Reading TILOHL: Matt Cavallaris

After reading the front and back fold of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, I believe that Henrietta Lack's story should be heard by the public. Henrietta's story should be heard because it was very wrong for what the doctors did to her and her family. Henrietta has been gone for sixty years now and doctors have taken her DNA and cloned it to weigh over fifty million metric tons. The doctors are still using Henrietta's DNA to this day. I understand that Henrietta's DNA is very important to science, but the doctors never gained permission from her to study her DNA in lab testings. Henrietta's family finally found out fifty years later that doctors have been using Henrietta's DNA in labs to help find cures for different diseases. This is the where the problem lies. If doctors had asked Henrietta sixty years ago if they could use her DNA, because her blood could be the cure to many diseases out there, the public would not be reading this novel today. Also Henrietta's family was poor, and were southern tobacco farmers. A monetary gift or at least recognition would have been nice from the doctors. I feel that Rebecca Skloot faced a difficult challenge of keeping her broad audience occupied and willing to turn the page. This story does encompass the medical field, but the average American citizen looking for a good read can still enjoy this compelling novel. I feel like this was a large challenge for Rebecca, because of the scientific nature of the book, and Americans reading the novel today will find something they have never encountered before. For myself i feel like this novel will be a difficult read for me, because I never understood the medical field, and all the science work for DNA and cloning. I also do not read very much, and loose interest in reading quickly as well. To be honest this novel does not seem interesting to me, once again the whole science medial field study does not excite me.
